Nikos Pavlis
wins 2 day on Mashpee-Wakeby and Long Pond in Lakeville!

The ABA Division 5 held their 2 Day Championship at Mashpee-Wakeby and Long Pond Freetown on 6/26 and 6/27. The weather was relatively unstable as overcast and foggy, with high humidity and at times bright sun were all factors in finding the fish. Day 1 found Vern Santos in first place with 4 largemouth that weighed 12.92 lbs. including what would be the biggest bass of the 2 day event with a 5.73 lb. largemouth. Vern was using a wacky rigged Senko in shallow water and docks. His partner Nikos Pavlis was following suit and although he wasn't near the top yet he would change that during the next day. 2nd place found rookie Mike Fresh (10.15 lbs.) threatening to not only win the event but had put himself in the overall point lead for Angler of the year. Mike caught all Smallmouth using a drop shot and jerk bait. 3rd place was held by Darryl Sampson with 8.52 lbs. which included a 5.32 lb. largemouth. Day 2 on Long Pond Freetown brought strong winds with gusts over 25 mph making boat control and lure presentation difficult. Nikos Pavlis continued his shallow presentation using wacky Senkos and a jerk bait over a small weedy flat. He indicated that color played a major factor in either getting hits or nothing at all. His persistence paid off as he came all the way from 5th place to win the 2 day with a 2 day total of 16.76 lbs. Nikos also had big bass on day 2 with a 3.84 lb. Largemouth. Vern Santos (Day 1 Leader) held on to finish 2nd with his 2 day total of 15.84 lbs. Eli Delany finished 3rd his 2 day total was 14.85 lbs. As for Rookie Mike Fresh his boat issues limited his ability to effectively fish in the strong winds and he was unable to catch a keeper on Day 2. With that Dan Rose did just enough to finish with the point lead and edged Eli Delany for angler of the year by 1 point. Division 5 had a great year as participation continues to grow. All the anglers are already looking forward to the start of the 2022 events (First one 9/12/21, Long Pond Harwich) and further opportunities to enjoy the competitive aspects of the ABA
